Methodology

How we research wineries, tastings and wine tours.

Our Editorial Philosophy

The right winery visit depends on your base, transport, budget and the wines you want to taste. We compare options using cited sources, then explain the tradeoffs.

How We Rank Options

Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:

  1. 1

    Visitor access

Whether the winery states that it receives visitors, by appointment or walk-in.

  2. 2

    What a tasting includes

Wines poured, food, cellar tour, duration and stated price.

  3. 3

    Getting there

Distance from the base town and whether it can be reached without driving.

  4. 4

    Evidence

Cite factual claims and identify unsupported or uncertain details.

What We Don't Rank By

Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.

  • ✗Affiliate commission rates
  • ✗Paid placement
  • ✗Invented visits or tasting notes
  • ✗Unverified guarantees

Where Our Data Comes From

Our recommendations synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:

  1. 1. Wineries and wine consortia

Official visitor pages, tasting menus, prices and booking terms

  2. 2. Tourism offices and transport operators

    Wine routes, timetables and access

  3. 3. Attributed reporting

Published context with an identifiable source and date

Handling Uncertainty

When a source doesn't confirm a detail, the guide says so and points you to the winery page to check. We'd rather be clear about what is published than guess.
